Strange entry
Stragglethorpe is a village in the civil parish of Brant Broughton with Stragglethorpe, in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The village is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) east of Newark-on-Trent
Stragglethorpe was a separate civil parish until 1931 when it merged with Brant Broughton.
Second
Stragglethorpe is located in the county of Nottinghamshire, East Midlands, one mile north of the town of Cotgrave, four miles east of the major city of Nottingham, and 105 miles north-west of London. Stragglethorpe lies six miles north of the Leicestershire border. Stragglethorpe falls within the district council of Rushcliffe, under the county council of Nottinghamshire.
Explanation of name
Stragglethorpe is first recorded as Straggelthorpe in 1796 There is a place similarly named in Lincolnshire for which we have early forms Tragertorp , Stragerthorp (1212, 1242). The latter name is somewhat difficult of explanation and it may be that the Nottinghamshire name has no connection with it. The suggestion may even be hazarded that the name is really a name of the late nickname type. The name would seem to be applied to an area containing some three or four small farms and it may be that it should be interpreted as 'straggling
